I'm glad I'm not the ony one who thought that. I'm passive with most sequels, but I hated Pocahontas II (And TLK 1 1/2) with a passion.

Sorry for dragging up an older thread, but I just had to comment.

That's a pathetic excuse for ruining the wonderfulness of the first film, though. I mean, they have already ripped history to shreds and stomped on the remnants, so why bother trying to go halfway - and then ending up with a horrible product?

EXACTLY.

Anyway, my favourite couples would be:

Aladdin/Jasmine
Ariel/Eric
Belle/Beast
John Smith/Pocahontas
Simba/Nala

Oooh - I wasn't here for the first round of this one.

I like Lion King 1 1/2. I thought it was really cute. The only thing that disappointed me about it was that they never mentioned Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead on the dvd features (or at least that I saw).

I like Pocahontas and John Rolfe. It's a personal thing. Wink Laughing They had to put them together because of history - I know they took their creative liberties in the first one and in any other movie they've done, but enough people believe that she married John Smith already and who she ultimately ended up with is too big of a thing for Disney to take a creative liberty with.

They still have to admit that the first one is Hamlet and the second one is Romeo and Juliet.

They did that on the Lion King dvd. Though that doesn't change that they claimed it as an original idea on the "Story Behind the Story" thing. Rolling Eyes It seems like that wouldn't be legal - all three of those stories are very much based on those plays and they're not even admitting it in the bonus features all the time.

Laughing Which is why I care deeply about this topic.

Yeah, they were like "It wasn't until after we were into production that we noticed the similarities were a lot like Hamlet, but it's not the story". Uh huh...

Which surprises me that they're so reluctant to admit it when the majority of their videos have some roots in a book or fairy tell.

Hmm...I can't believe Hercules and Megara haven't been mentioned more Confused Meg -is- the only heroine who actually died for her true love. And I love how their personalities contrast so much.

Am I the only one who's deeply creeped out by Ariel and Eric? Like I've said before, a voice is not something people usually base entire relationships on Shocked Love at first sight plots seem a little forced sometimes.

Because they want to keep that idea that this is the best Disney movie of all time because it's an idea they came up with on their own unlike the others; Not because it is based off what is said to be Shakespeare's greatest and well-known play because it is so universally recognized and you are supposedly supposed to be able to identify with at least one character or aspect in it. That's really dumb - to reject a strong literary basis for the story just to make yourself feel special. Rolling Eyes

That's probably why me and Hamlet don't get along Laughing. The more loved and praised something is, that is the less I am going to like it because I feel like those things are glorified past what they really are.

I really enjoyed Hamlet as well as Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead - which is why I get upset that they aren't given the credit they deserve in this area.
