The latest "scholarly" person to hail Princess Jasmine as the poster child for anti-feminist role models comes to us from Newsweek:
http://www.newsweek.com/2010/11/04/girls-gone-mild/aladdin-1992.html
My favorite part of the whole article is that Tangled is also held up as a terrible offender in the "no good female role models in children's movies" for such things as.... Rapunzel being blonde and not donating her hair to Locks of Love. I am not kidding. Never mind the movie not being out yet.
I won't say there's no validity to any criticism of female characters in media geared toward children; I also won't say there's no validity to any defense of said same characters. But really, isn't anyone sick of these arguments over and over? And if not, I'm sure better arguments exist than those found in this article.
Jasmine's outfit, blah blah blah, her body, blah, blah, blah, and gee, no one's ever criticized Snow White or Jessica Rabbit before. How original and enlightening! |

So I got this little book from a friend as part of a Christmas gift and I cracked up when I saw the first page. I'll let you guess why
Further proof Disney is just not paying attention to what they put in these books anymore |

I wonder who they meant to put in instead of Kassim, Jafar or Prince Achmed. I don't even know which possibility would be funnier. |

What the hell? That is just hilarious. One, Jasmine said "if I marry" meaning she wanted a life of her own more than she wanted a man, secondly what is Kassim doing there? |
