I was drawing(about my 150th Smile

) picture of Aladdin earlier, when I was thinking, how many times did it take them to find the perfect Aladdin character? I was wondering if there were any other character designs that they had for him. anyone know? or seen any?

There were...plenty. Originally, Aladdin was a few years younger, and there's plenty of production art of him as a scrawny fifteen-year-old. I don't have any, but I'm sure others do.

They show some on the 2nd disk of the dvd. I'll see if I can get you some screen caps either tomorrow or Thursday of them if you want.

if you have the special edition DVD and you go to the second disk and go to thr making of aladdin index there should be somthing on aladdins designs before they settled on the current model

So they have some on the DVD? I'll have to watch that section once I actually buy the darn thing.

But yeah basic DVD summary: originally he was this little guy and looked like a little kid, basically. I think they said he was like 14 or 15, but whatever.
But then Mark Henn finished Jasmine's design as you see her now and that totally blew Aladdin's design out of the water because she was over powering him ("Not that that ever happens in real life"-John Musker Laughing

). They saw why he'd fall for her, but not her falling for him.
.....So they hunkified him Laughing

With some of the basic looks of Tom Cruise, the body of a youthful volleyball player, M.C. Hammers pants, and a personality mixed with the confidence of Tom Cruise in the movie "Top Gun" and that boyish quality of Micheal J. Fox, you have the 17-18 year old ish looking Aladdin you see before you today. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Very Happy

As for the original design concepts of what Glen drew before all that, that's on the DVD. He had some weird ones, too...

Thank god! And I'm glad they didn't have the mother in Aladdin. I dont know I dont think she would've really fit in with the movie. Confused
