Very Happy Yes, Pocahontas is a princess. This topic inspires rants from me pretty frequently. For the non-princesses - it's false advertising. For Pocahontas (and any other Princess that is completely ignored) and for those Princesses like Jasmine that don't get on as much merchandise, it's not fair that the non-Princesses are taking their merchandise. And no one can ever explain to me what's wrong with not being a Princess? Most little girls aren't really Princesses. Why can't they market their dolls as the "Disney Heroines" or something to that effect? Then any of the Disney ladies could be included in the merchandise. Or they could have the Disney Princesses and the Disney Non-Princesses (with a different name, of course Laughing ) and market them that way.

That's because little girls aren't going to want to be "heroines". They want to be princesses. The idea of "princess meets prince and lives happily ever because of it" storybook stuff is being beaten over their heads so it's not like they see anything else.

I'm starting to think their princess is collection is starting to be just a name and actually ignores the princess part on purpose Laughing

And as far as I can see, Jasmine is the only princess that is a part of the major six that doesn't get on as much as she should. If I am completely 100 percent honest with myself, it's either because she's ethnic, her personality or her midrift. I'm thinking it's the earlier of the two, though Confused

And they're just furthering that by marketing the way they are.

The major six: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine
If you look at a lot of the merchandise that is "Disney Princess" it has Snow White, Cinderella, and Belle on it. Ariel gets a decent amount of stuff. I don't see Aurora getting quite as much. I agree though that Jasmine is the most neglected and I think your reasoning is right.

I see Aurora a lot, too. It's basically the ones with the big puffy dresses that are everywhere.

It just really glazes my donut that Jasmine is a princess by birth and is barely represented in the friggen' collection and those heffas who had to marry royalty became princesses and they are in it.

So what if she's a little fiesty. I'd rather that than dainty house cleaning.

*pictures Walmart in her head* Aaaaaaaaah - you're right.

This makes me think of the interesting debate that usually stems from this one: those "heffas" who became princesses by marriage that we never actually see marry the prince, so technically they could break up, should they be included? *looks at the list* Ok, I didn't realize that it just applies to Belle, but it's still an interesting conversation.

Laughing I personally don't either, but my sister is a BatB fan, so I'm used to . . . controlling what I say about the movie - she used to run around after me and call me "BEEEEEEEAST!!!!!!!!" when she was like 2. Laughing And people wonder why I don't care for that movie as much as others? Laughing

I don't know - I had never really considered that point of view until someone pointed it out to me. I had never questioned Belle's position as a princess before then, but I do think that it's an interesting point that if they never show the wedding that you technically can interpret the ending differently. We'd have the same kind of ending (though it woulnd't effect Jasmine's status, since she's royal by blood) if it weren't for KoT.

LMAO...so that's why you don't like it....hah hah.

Well, my sister was cool. When mom got her a lunchbox with Belle, Ariel, and Snow White, she said, "NO! I wanted one with Jasmine!"

So Mom got her the one with the other three. Laughing

Yeah, but ours was kinda assumed considering half the movie is about her getting married, even if the sultan was like "Ok, we've gone through three hard days-let's abolish the law and you can do what you want" Laughing

Laughing I'm so gonna have to draw that picture one day.

And I can keep Lumiere and Cogsworth, the music and the animation...but they can have the rest of the movie. Those are the only things that keep me watching it.

Ah...I love the whole darn thing. It's my favorite Disney movie.

*knives come out*

By itself, that is! Aladdin had a much better saga and characters and all.

*knives retreat*

(Whew.)

I think it's not one of my favorite favorites because it's too much of a chick flick to me. Same thing with Little Mermaid Laughing
