We've discussed this before, but never made a pole! So hereya go. I just listed off the first few that came to mind. Here's a quick summary of the stories:
Ali Baba and the forty thieves - a man finds the 40thieves hideout and bunches of trouble starts. But his slave Morgana has a few tricks up her sleeve to save the day. My thoughts on this one: It would be kind of wierd to have this since Disney already used the 40 thieves in Aladdin and the KoT. It would be wierd coming up with 40 completely different thieves. And if they went with the original 40, they would probably totally butcher the personas of them as they usually do in sequels etc. And it wouldn't be the same without Jerry Orbach as Saluk.
Ivanhoe is about a knight who falls in love with two women - one being a rich woman that they bethrothed each other to as children, one being a dark-eyed witch doctor... It's really not that popular and I don't know why it so randomly popped into my head, but hey.
Rapunzel - Duh. The long hair, the chant, the witch, you got it. My thoughts: Barbie already did it. Disney should stay away from it.
The Magic Flute: A princess was kidnapped from birth by an evil witch and was raised to believe that she was her mother. At almost 16, her father finds and rescues her. The witch pays a prince to rescue her daughter and gives him a magic flute to help out.
Narnia: C.S. Lewis. FOur kids find a magical world ruled by a mighty lion. It's already being remade by other companies, sooo...

One of the choices is "Rapunzel." Are they making one? I may have heard that somewhere...

Uh, that's not the plot of "The Magic Flute". The actual opera goes much deeper than that cartoon version.

Too late Laughing Due in 2007 and directed by thesupacool Glen Keane.

I went with Ali Baba because I am a sucker for that story and "The Arabian Nights". But I have a feeling if they made that movie right now, people would toss their cookies and someone would find something in it that is "offensive". They can join the "Ethnically Offensive/Rejected" club Laughing

And Disney is doing a live-action "Narnia" with Walden Media, the first installment comes out in December.

I had suggested this movie in another thread-

Quote:
Or even "Allerleirauh", better know to children's stories buff as "Princess Furball".

Short (G-rated) summary: To avoid an arranged marriage, a princess requests four wedding presents- a dress of the sun, a dress of the sky, a dress of stars, and a coat from the skins of a thousand animals. When her intended gets all of it done, she runs away with her gifts to another kingdom where she made to serve as a maid for its king. Falling for him, she concocts a plan, using her wedding gifts along with three gold trinkets that she drops into the broth she makes for him and appearing out of her humble facade and into her finery ala "Cinderella" for three days and nights, until she is discovered.

She does all this without fairy godmothers and magic, unless you count cooking magic.

Scary thing is the original story had an incesteous father who wanted to marry his own daughter because he couldn't find another woman who was as beautiful as her mother. Evil or Very Mad

Well, I put the Magic Flute, but now that I remember that point you made, AG, I dunno... (wish we could undo votes...)

I've read a good amount of moviable books in my day. And I agree that the 1001 Arabian Nights (Sheherazades's tales) would be cool... I've read mild versions of that that could easily be made into a movie. And people can complain about anything. That's their problem.
